The event was set up in the outdoor courtyard behind Cocina & Bar with a stage near the entrance from the Medano Hotel. Angie Vertii and her band played for the whole event from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with only breaks when Marcos was making announcements. There were 19 different chilis available for guests to taste, offered in small paper cups. They ranged from a turkey chili to mild bean or beef based chilis to a few very hot choices. After most of the crowd had tasted the chilis, an official went from table to table asking each person the number of their favorite chili to be able to determine the winner. In addition to the chili samples, Cocina & Bar provided free hot-dogs in their bakery’s buns as well as free water and soda for all of the attendees. Bowls of pretzel and cracker mixes were on all of the tables.
The whole event was very professionally managed. The staff were great. The service for drinks or alternative menu items was great. It was so good that I went back the next day just to get pictures of the restaurant without the crowds and to thank Marcos for his generosity. We will definitely be back to actually try the dinner menu.
