SHADE AT LA FORTUNA BEACH BAR AND GRILL

John Anderson, Editor

La Fortuna is not only in the center of the surfing world on the East Cape of Los Cabos, it has become a restaurant area. With Zai Sushi Surf Bar, Lateral and La Fortuna, Restaurante La Fortuna, Liebre Matrera and Shade at La Fortuna Beach Bar and Grill. Shade has live music and Saturday afternoons and a great menu of Mexican and American Favorites. We recently went with our friend Ethan to see Sharon Katz and Wendy Quick of Peace Train perform. We were greeted as we walked into the restaurant by Marcus and Belen, the owners. Marcus is South African and was excited to see Sharon Katz perform.
We were offered a table with a great view of the stage and provided with menus. The menu
offers appetizers, soups and salads, burgers and sandwiches, and pasta and pizza. It also
provides choices of shrimp, chicken, fish, ribs, and beef items from the grill. We ordered
some guacamole to start along with our drinks. Marcus brought us over complementary
shots of Baja 1000 Anejo Tequila made by a neighbor on the East Cape. The guacamole
came on a bed of Pico de Gallo and was great. For our main courses, Ethan ordered a
Hamburger with French Fries, Beth chose the Baja Shrimp Tacos and I asked for the
Chicken Skewers. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Rambo, Marcus and
Belen's dog came over to say hi and get his ears and back scratched. We enjoyed the
homemade flan for dessert.
What could be better than good food and service, a great view of the Sea of Cortez and live
music from Sharon Katz and Wendy Quick. They played lots of South African traditional
Zulu tunes as well as original songs and pop tunes. People got up to dance. It was a great
afternoon.
