Trattoria da Pietro in Plaza Novvo in El Tezal

A month ago, Beth and I went to Steakhouse Da Pietro in Plaza Novvo at the recommendation of several people who had seen the post of Salvatore G’s and mentioned the two Da Pietro restaurants in Plaza Novvo up behind Costco. After looking at the menus, we decided to go to the Steakhouse first. However, we were so impressed with our experience that we decided we also needed to try the Trattoria da Pietro, the Italian restaurant. Both restaurants are on the first floor of the east wing of the plaza, with Trattoria Da Pietro at the very front of the plaza.

We arrived for our reservation and were greeted at the host stand by Pietro Gioco, the owner of the restaurant. Pietro comes from a family of restauranteurs in Italy and has been in the restaurant business from an early age. He arrived in Cabo San Lucas in 2002 and his former restaurant was DOC, across from the park on Calle Hidalgo in Cabo San Lucas.

Trattoria Da Pietro has seating both inside (with air-conditioning and on a patio outside). We were led to a table for two and offered the menus. The design of the design of the interior of the restaurant is very pleasant with large posters of Campari, Asti Cinzano and Martini and Rossi on the walls. The unique wine cellar designed by Pietro displays only Italian wines. There is a large bar at the back of the restaurant, which includes a large selection of spirits with a good selection of Clase Azul Tequila.

The menu provides an extensive selection of Italian dishes including appetizer boards, salads, carpaccio, cozze, fresh pastas, risotto, fish, chicken, beef, veal and more. There was both a special pasta and a special risotto that our server Roberto described to us. We were provided with a bowl of fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and offered drinks. As usual, I order a glass of Chardonnay. Roberto brought the Altkirch Chardonnay for me to try. As an appetizer, Beth ordered the Burrata Salad with heirloom tomatoes and basil and I ordered the Carpaccio with large slices of fresh parmesan and argula on top. Both were excellent.

For a main course, I was having a hard time choosing between the Risotto of the day and the Mushroom Risotto on the menu. Roberto convinced me to try the Risotto of the day, which featured a selection of different types of mushrooms. Beth selected the Fettuccine Speck e Asparagi. She didn’t know what Speck was and it turned out to be proscuitto. The portion sizes were large and we ended up taking some of our entrées home with us for lunch the next day.

While full, our meal was not over as we decided to try two of their desserts. Beth insists that the Tiramisu was the best that she has tasted in Los Cabos, which is hard to do given the offerings at Panache and Salvatore G’s. The Panna Cotta, which I order was also very good. I also was able to enjoy a great Limoncello with my dessert.

During the meal, the outdoor patio started to fill up with large groups (we always eat earlier than most people) and we had the opportunity to listen to the live music provided by Christian Gomez, who plays at the restaurant a few nights each week. Pietro stopped by the table to see how we had enjoyed our meal. The food and service were excellent.

During the heat, there have been a lot of rolling blackouts in Los Cabos as everyone turns on their air conditioning. As we were leaving, all of the sudden the power went out. Luckily, the small lights deployed to each table solved the short-term inconvenience.
