Celebrating the flavors, foods and music of the Baja is the main purpose of the 5th Festival of Sabores de Baja. Held at Dona Pame Restaurant in Miraflores, this afternoon event on April 3rd was a great success. Hosted by Lucy Trasvina and her family (her mother started Dona Pame decades ago), it featured a wide range of restaurants from Baja California Sur, artesans showing and selling their jewelry and crafts and selections of tequila, mezcal, beer and juices from Mexico. On stage, the crowd was entertained by a large mariachi band.
Because I knew that parking was going to be a problem, we arrived about 15 minutes early (the event was from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm) but there was already a line up at the check in desk. We picked up our wrist bands and made our way down into the farm area of the property – down the hill from the restaurant, Casa de Victoria and the two casita that are part of Dona Pame). As we came down the hill, we saw all of the tents set up for the restaurants, beverages and craft vendors. At the back of the area was a stage with a backdrop recognizing all of the sponsors of the event. In the middle were a large number of picnic tables and a set of round tables under more tents. Overall, the event space was very well organized.
We had the opportunity to sample food from several of the restaurants. The biggest line up and selection of items was from Dona Pame. Everything was great. A very enjoyable afternoon.
We would recommend a weekend trip out to Dona Pame in Miraflores (only open on Saturday and Sunday).
