Casa Musa in the Art District in San Jose del Cabo

Located at the corner Jose Maria Morelos and the up street from downtown is Casa Musa. This white building on the corner use to be a school. It has now been converted into a cultural center where people can go to both share their skills with others or have a class in a number of different areas – pottery, woodworking, textiles and sewing, watercolor and oil painting and inspirational classes for kids.

My wife Beth recently went to Casa Musa with her women’s group that meets each Wednesday at Merkado in the Koral Center on the corridor. A number of the women choose pottery while others participated in a watercolor class. When our daughter was visiting, Beth and Erica went to Casa Musa to do some more pottery. In the first session the used the wheels to create their pottery works. In the next session, prior to the pots being fired, Erica took a variety of leaves from the condo to put on the side of the pots so that the design would be embedded in the exterior when fired (the actual leaves disintegrate). They still have to go back to actually apply the glaze to their works of art before they are fired a second time.

People passionate about the different handcrafted skills that are represented at Casa Musa volunteer their time to help with newcomers interested in learning more about pottery, sewing, woodworking or painting. There are also a number of workshops available in each of these areas at the center.
