Located on the beach north of Todos Santos, we had heard about The Green Room from both Ezra Katz and Tim Lang. They had described it as a very unique place where you could have seafood on the beach while watching the waves of the Pacific Ocean. So we decided that this was someplace where we needed to stop for a late lunch on our way back from a furniture buying trip to La Paz.
We parked in the lot in front of Villa Santa Cruz and entered under the sign mounted from two palm trees. To say the least, the walk of the unique narrow pathway through the trees to the restaurant was an experience. As we arrived at the welcome center, we were greeted by a host with a walkie-talkie who asked if we had a reservation. We said no and after talking he told us that we could be seated but that he would need the table at 5:30 pm (it was 3:30). We then walked up the wooden pathway and were seated at a table with an umbrella on the beach. The restaurant has two small palapa buildings – one a bar, tables on the beach and in the very front pairs of Adirondack chairs with umbrellas and a fire pit in front of each.
The menu was interesting with choices of appetizers, salads, tostadas, classic and gourmet tacos. The Green Room describes its food as “Serving elevated Mexican seafood with a casual vibe, the Green Room experience offers a taste of the true magic of Baja.”
I couldn’t resist having a margarita on the beach and we ordered some guacamole and tortilla chips to start. The guacamole was in a big bowl and included crispy onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and some additional spices. Beth ordered the arrachera (flank steak tacos). The tacos are served on three small tortillas (our choice was flour), piled high with steak, fresh vegetables and included pico de gallo and refried beans. I ordered the veggie tacos. The selection of fresh vegetables was amazing – red, yellow and green peppers, zucchini, a chili pepper, broccoli, white and purple cauliflower, tomatoes and mushrooms. There was a delicious sweet potato purée on the side. The flavors were amazing and the portions were just right for our lunch time meal. The service was very attentive.
This is truly an interesting and unique place. It would be great for dinner with the live music that they offer regularly.
