Festival de Vino Mexicano

Festival Del Vino Mexicano

John Anderson, Editor

On October 5th, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm a very special wine event was held at an event center in Acre’s property near the arroyo in San Jose del Cabo. The Mexican Wine Festival featured 115 labels and 30 Mexican wineries.

Attendees received a commemorative glass to use in tasting any of the wines at the event. The cost was $999 mx. The Festival was set up with tables in a U-shape in the trees near Acre’s Art and Experiences Center on the dirt road off of Centenario near the arroyo in San Jose del Cabo. Each table featured several different varietals offered by the participating wineries or retailers. The far end of the U featured many of the Mexican wines offered for sale by Baja Wine.

Having purchased my wrist band through Dawn Solomon of the Baja Vine Club, I collected my commemorative wine glass as I entered the area. My first stop was at the table of La Tinajas Winery from Todos Santos. Paul Magot, the new assistant wine maker was sharing their wines and let me taste a new Fume Blanc and Rose that were yet to be labeled – excellent.

I walked around the tables, tasting several of the whites (unfortunately, I am allergic to many reds). The various regions of Mexico – both Valle de Guadalupe and the mainland – are producing excellent and award-winning wines. The photos below give you a tour of each of the tables and the wines that were offered. Enjoy!
