The Cellar Fine Wine and Spirits

John Anderson, Editor

Located on the corridor across from the entrance to Cerro Colorado, a new wine and spirits retail location has recently opened.  I had been watching the sign on the front of the new building saying “Something Great is Coming” for a while.  Once it opened, I had to stop by and learn about this new source of wine.

I walked in the front door and could immediately tell that this was truly a high-end store.  In the center was an oblong bar with a marble countertop.  In the back was a glassed-in temperature-controlled wine cellar.  Both sides were lined with shelves of wine, spirits, and even a great selection of glassware.

Denisse Tiscareno asked me if I had been in before and when I said no, she gave me a tour of the store.  We went directly to the wine cellar.  It featured exceptional red wines from Italy and France.  On one end was a humidor, stocked with cigars, and on the other was a rack of champagnes.

I had the opportunity to meet Carlos Martin Del Campo to ask him a few questions about the business.  He indicated that they focus on Italian, French, and Mexican wines.  They have 25 different sources for their wines and are starting to import wines directly themselves.

The store also has an impressive collection of spirits.  They are a distributor of Clase Azul tequila and had both tequila and mezcal on hand.  They also had a display featuring a special bottle of Gran Patron.  The Cellar has a large selection of mezcal and tequila as well as other spirits.

I asked Carlos if they planned to have tasting events and he said yes – but in the future.  They are clearly getting settled into these new locations.  The store was closed at the time I arrived as they were awaiting an inspection.  I told both Denisse and Carlos that I would be back to buy some Chardonnay.
