SOLAR SUNDAY TVLSERTEC SOLAR ENERGY

John Anderson, Editor

The second oldest solar company in Los Cabos (after Innovacion Solar), TVLsertec was founded in 2013 by Tomas Lopez Villar and his wife, Yolitzi Mejía Isaís. Tomas is an engineer who had worked on the design and building of large electrical substations in Spain, Europe, Latin and South America. Cabo San Lucas was one of their favorite areas and so between big projects, the couple decided to start a solar company here. Since inception, TVLsertec has done about 400 residential and commercial solar installations in the area. In April 2022, Ramon Estavillo, an engineer certified in solar technologies and his wife Mayra Pantoja joined the company and Ramon now designs and supervises all of their solar projects in the Baja. The company now has seven full-time employees including another engineer who just joined the team.

TVLsertec has relationships with a number of major solar manufacturers. Their preferred solar panel company is Canadian Solar, which produces panels up to 720 W. Two recent residential projects have installed 555 W and 615 W panels on aluminum racking systems on the roofs of the homes. the solar panels are warrantied for 25 years. The company’s preferences for inverters are Victron and Fronius. Each company offers inverters with different kW levels to match the size and processing needs of the project. We recently posted a Sunday Solar story about Fronius that provides the company’s history and the range of residential and commercial inverters that they offer. Victron Energy has been in business for over 50 years and offers inverters, charge controllers, batteries and battery monitors, local and remote monitoring systems and accessories. Ramon indicated that he was very impressed with Victron Energy, especially as solar panels can be added to a system simply by adding charge controllers, without the need for additional inverters, if the system is designed correctly. The warranty on Victron Energy electrical products is 10 years. The company uses two types of lithium-ion batteries in their installations – Pylontech US5000 48 V lithium batteries with a capacity of 4.8 kWh and Pytes 5.2 kW lithium-ion batteries. Both companies have battery management systems in cabinets that interact with the other aspects of the solar components. The warranty of the each of the batteries is 10 years.

The detail provided by the remote monitoring system on total kW input and use, as well as the ability to adjust the configuration of the system remotely was impressive. In fact, Mayra mentioned that her husband was frequently monitoring and adjusting client’s configurations remotely based on the weather and the information that he had about their lifestyle.

Ramon and Mayra recently presented at a Talk of the Town meeting at Senora Cocina Casa Y Cantina in The Shoppes at Palmilla. Part of the presentation focused on the process that they follow with their clients. The first stage is to review the potential client’s CFE bill and make a technical inspection of the home or business to determine the feasibility of a solar installation. The second stage is to develop a detailed proposal for the solar systems, present it and answer questions about both the design and the timing of the installation. The third stage is to deliver the completed solar system, teach the owners how to use and to provide ongoing service.

Following our meeting, Ramon and Mayra took me to tour three different projects. The first a new townhouse in the back of El Tezal, the second a commercial installation at a major fruit and vegetable supplier in Cabo San Lucas, and the third a private residence in a gated community on the corridor. This provided a very useful overview of the approach to solar installation, the different design and configuration choices and the reaction of the client to the process. Each location will be featured in an upcoming Solar Sunday story.Having had the opportunity to review a few proposals for solar systems that they have installed in Los Cabos, their pricing is very reasonable and should be on your list of companies to consider for your home or business.
