Located at Narciso Mendoza 453, Alikan y Avenida de La Juventud in Cabo San Lucas is a great local restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner – Palo Verde Restaurante. The restaurant has exclusive parking in front and a parking lot in back. With seating at the bar on the street, outdoor dining and an air-conditioned large interior dining space, it is a great place not matter what the weather of Los Cabos brings. I met a friend there for breakfast. The menu offers traditional Mexican breakfasts – chilaquiles, tecolata, machaca, burritos, a number of egg dishes as well as eggs Benedict, pancakes, French toast, sandwiches, yoghurt and more. There is also a bakery and so our server came to our table with a basket of fresh pastries to ask if there was something that we would like.
Hector and I reviewed the menu. I chose the Huevos Rancheros and Hector the eggs Benedict. To start, our server brought us a small coconut pastry ball on a plate covered with powdered sugar. It was very tasty. The Huevos Rancheros had two fried eggs over easy (my choice of how they were cooked) on corn tortillas with pork chorizo and a tomato chile sauce. Avocados, onions, and green surround the plate. The flavors were great. It wasn’t too spicy (a fear of mine) and very filling. The Eggs Benedict were surrounded by salad and had lots of Hollandaise sauce on top. Hector said that they were very good.
After we had our meal, I had the opportunity to meet the manager, Okymmy del Toro, who said that restaurant would have its second anniversary on November 11th and that they had a good local following. When they opened the kitchen was the small space that is now the bakery but they expanded by adding a new full kitchen at the back of the indoor dining space. They also hope to cover more of the back area in the near future.
I was very impressed with the restaurant, its design, the food and the service. This is truly a hidden gem that is worth checking out.
