HURRICANE PROTECTION IN LOS CABOS

John Anderson, Editor

We are very aware of the damage that a hurricane can do to your home. During Hurricane Odile, our hurricane protection was ripped off the front of our house in Zacatitos and we had more than $200,000 US in damage. When we moved to Pueblo Campestre, we explored all of the alternatives for hurricane protection, including both fabric and aluminum shutters. For our double doors, we selected hurricane fabric protection. To close off the hallway in the front courtyard we chose aluminum hurricane shutters that can be moved into a special space on each side when they are not needed.  These keep the hallway dry to the two bedrooms and second bath while also providing a space where outdoor furniture can be stored in anticipation of a major hurricane.

One of our neighbors had just had Home Maintenance and Improvement by Eduardo install aluminum hurricane shutters for his Fairway home in Pueblo Campestre. While aluminum shutters are always visible on the sides of the windows and doors, one of the benefits for home owners who are not in residence for months at a time, is the security that they provide for the home. They are also less expensive than hurricane fabric, especially if they are deployed with an electric motor and remote control. Hurricane shutters were placed on all of the windows and doors of the house, including the sliding doors that cover the whole back of the house between the outdoor patio and the living room and dining room of the house.

The photos below show the nature of the hurricane shutters and their installation in Pueblo Campestre Phase 2.
