My wife and I took a neighbor to La Tuna Restaurant and Bar last night for dinner. The restaurant was completed decorated for Christmas – at the front door, a tree, and a display of Christmas favorites for people to take their pictures in front of it. It was also clear that it was a popular place for Posadas (Holiday Parties). In the front of the restaurant, there were 20 or more people – adults, children and dogs – set up in a U-formation having a party. Some of the children went into the kid’s entertainment room to watch movies and play with toys. Later in the evening the parents got them all together for a group photo in front of the Christmas display.
Down the whole center of the restaurant was a long table that would seat at least 40 people. When we arrived, it was empty but set up for a party. Over the next few hours, it filled up. I had an opportunity to look at the four-course meal that was planned – sashimi and tuna tartar to start, tacos and bread fish as a second course, seafood risotto as a third and cheese cake for dessert. People were greeting each other and listening to the vocal stylings of Juan Jose Herrera Torres with a great repertoire of both English and Spanish hits. As the group was finishing its meal, they were entertained for about 30 minutes by a standup comedian – Charlie Munin – outfitted in a kilt, sporran and Scottish field socks and boots. As it was in Spanish, I couldn’t understand it all but he was interacting with each of the guest couples at the Posada. It was clear that everyone was having a great time.
I asked the owner of the restaurant for a copy of the Posada menus just to see what the options were. It looks like a great place for an office or family party. We enjoyed our dinner too – Grilled Watermelon and Tuna Ceviche to start, a Surf and Turf Tostada, Classic Shrimp and a Shrimp Fiesta. It was delicious and the service was great – even with these two parties going on.
