As outlined by Johnny Vaughan of Questro at the Club Campestre Annual General Meeting on November 29, all of the current substations in Los Cabos are now at or over capacity. New condominium complexes, commercial outlets (e.g., Home Depot, City Market) may not have access to electricity. As a result, more and more homeowners in Campestre are choosing to install robust solar systems in their homes. This was the case for a Fairway Home in Pueblo Campestre Phase 2 that was recently closed. The owners decided to install a system with Innovacion Solar that would meet their needs with or without the connection to CFE and the grid.
Before starting the installation, Innovacion had to place conduits in the walls of the house that would allow it be be wired from each of the areas where the solar panels were placed, and from the main electrical box to the garage were the inverter and batteries would be placed. The solar system designed by the engineers at Innovacion Solar included a total of 24 450 W SunPower solar panels with a 40-year warranty. The panels were placed on the pergolas above the back deck of the house (12) and the car port (6) and garage (6) at the house. Innovacion’s patented aluminum racking system was use to install the panels in the three locations. The panels provide a potential of 10.8 kW of energy per hour delivered from the solar panels to the Inverter. To meet the design requirements of Questro that no components are visible from the road, a 6″ wood border was placed around the panels on the pergola.
In the garage, Innovacion installed a 15 kW Sol-Ark Inverter to convert the solar energy to electricity to power the appliances in the house and charge the batteries. A battery management cabinet houses four Pyte 5.12 kW lithium-ion batteries, a total of 10.48 kW of storage when fully charged. The installation takes up a very small space in the front corner of the garage.
As the owner of the home described to me, he likes to use a lot of air conditioning in the heat and hoped that the system would support this need during the hottest time of the year in Los Cabos.
