SHARON KATZ AND WENDY QUICK AT SHADE AT LA FORTUNA

John Anderson, Editor

I first met Sharon Katz in Todos Santos and learned of her role in South Africa. At the end of apartheid, Sharon directed the first integrated choir of young South Africans and then toured them through Africa on the Peace Train. Her band became known as Sharon Katz and the Peace Train. In 1992, Sharon performed at Nelson Mandela’s birthday and he challenged her to do even more to break the impact of apartheid, Since, that time, she has been touring the world telling the story of South Africa in music, stories and now a play – Ubuntu: A South African Musical – to open in Todos Santos at Teatro Azul on February 21st, 27th and 28th.

Sharon was invited by a fellow South African, Marcus, the owner of Shade at La Fortuna Beach Bar and Grill to perform. The afternoon was filled with the music of South Africa and other countries and some sang along and others danced.

Here is song the well-known Cuban song, La Guantanamera.  Enjoy!
