We had first experienced Misiones de Kino at a wine pairing dinner organized by Dawn Solomon and Baja Vine Club. Located on the corner of Vincente Guerrero and 5 de Mayo a block north of the park in downtown Cabo San Lucas, the restaurant is designed like the interior of a mission. We were greeted by the hostess and taken to our table with the menu. Israel, the son of the owner of the restaurant came to ask us what would would like to drink as we reviewed the menu. The menu offers a wide range of choices including appetizers, soups and salads, seafood, Mexican dishes and pastas from which to choose. A server brought out a platter with the fresh seafood of the day – fish, lobster, scallops, shrimp.
As we were reviewing the menu, we were served an amuse of tuna paste with cucumber and tomato on top – delicious. To start our dinner, I selected the baked brie and goat cheese and Beth ordered the creamy corn soup. The baked cheese was enough for three to four people to share. The cheese (brie and two goat cheese) were placed on top of thick slices of apple. The platter included four slices of bread with balsamic vinegar, slices of apple, strawberries and walnuts to complement the cheese. The Creamy Corn soup came with a large shrimp in the middle as well as corn and other small bits of vegetables in the creamy broth. Beth loved it.
For our main courses, Beth chose the Garlic Scampi pasta – sautéed shrimp in olive oil, garlic, and mushrooms in a light sherry lemon cream sauces over fettuccine pasta with parmesan cheese. The pasta was served with fresh rolls and butter. I decided on the chicken kabob – chicken breast marinated in our house dressing, grilled with vegetables and pineapple, resting atop of Mexican rice. There were two large kabobs and I took one home for another meal. During our dinner, we were entertained by street musicians who came to the restaurant. To finish off our dinner, we ordered the chocolate mousse to share. Another winner.
We were sorry that we had not gone back to Misiones de Kino sooner. The overall experience was excellent – delicious food, good portion sizes, excellent service and a very pleasant atmosphere at a reasonable cost.
