La Morena in Todos Santos

John Anderson, Editor

One of our favorite places for music and food in Todos Santos is La Morena, just down the block from the Hotel California. La Morena has Latin Music on Mondays, blues on Wednesday nights and rock on Friday nights and often has special music events as well.

Erik Castellanos and his Cuban chef wife run the restaurant and offer great food and service. The dinner menu includes appetizers, salads, main dishes with fresh fish, shrimp, pork, chicken and steak and even a vegetarian platter. There are also great desserts. When you are in either the indoor dining area at the bar of the outdoor dining area in the patio (where the stage is for live music), you will see a menu of specials written on a large easel.

It was Saturday night and we had just been to an early concert with Chris Paulson and David Raitt at Casa Barbara and decided to stop at La Morena for dinner on our way back to San Jose del Cabo. Beth ordered the Arrachera and I ordered the Vegetarian Plate (staying on my plant-based diet). The grilled vegetables on the dish included broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, onions and strips of grilled tofu. There was an oil and balsamic dipping sauce and the dish came with flour tortillas. Beth’s steak was adorned by a large green onion and came with rice and refried beans. I sipped my glass of Chardonnay as we both enjoyed our meals immensely. For dessert, we shared a very creamy and rich Chocolate Mousse. It was great to be back in Todos Santos for the evening.
