EL POLLO DE ORO DE LOS CABOS

John Anderson, Editor

Located on the corner of Jose Maria Morelos and 20th of Novembre in Cabo San Lucas is El Pollo de Oro de Los Cabos. This corner is the bus stop for all of the local buses going through Los Cabos and the sign for the restaurant is small and above the doors right on the corner. Entering you view a very large dining room with a fountain, red tiles and chairs, and a kitchen and bar along the back wall. At the other door by the bus stop on Jose Maria Morelos is a large take-out area and rotisserie ovens for chicken, pork, and lots of sides.

We choose seats in the raised area and our server provided us with menus. The menu offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. We went for an early dinner and the menu has appetizers, soups, lots of chicken dishes with different preparations, pork, beef, seafood, and Mexican dishes. We order a side of guacamole to start along with our drinks. The four of us orders from different sections of the menu. Beth chose the breaded chicken, which was served with rice and salad. Dianne selected the chicken burritos with rice, beans, and guacamole. Bill went for his standard chicken fajitas with lots of vegetables, rice, guacamole, and beans. I ordered the garlic grilled fish with rice and salad. There were large chunks of garlic all along the top.

The portion sizes were large, the food had very good flavor, and you can’t beat the prices. The most expensive thing on the menu was the pork ribs for $215 pesos. Most items were under $150 peso. The service was almost immediate. We got our food within minutes. It is not the most atmospheric place but it is a great choice for a quick, good, filling meal.
