Located in the arroyo between Dreams Resort and Zoetry on the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is a small seafood inspired restaurant on the beach. This simple restaurant includes a single building housing the kitchen, a container for the bar and both covered and open seating on the beach with a great view of the Sea of Cortez. Armando, the owner and his wife operate the restaurant. They do very little to promote it, looking for word of mouth and recommendations to bring them business. Our friends, Eric and Lisa, who live in a condo at Zoetry say that if they go out to dinner these days, it is just to walk down the beach to Sr. Pez.
The word of mouth is clearly working very well. When we arrived, there were about 10 people waiting to be seated. As each table was cleared, people were seated in the order that they arrived. A few people who wanted to sit on the beach, had extra tables and chairs set up to accommodate them. We were talking the couple behind us in the line and decided that the four of us would take a table together to speed up the process (and it turned out that we had lots of mutual friends in common in El Tule). All of us were at the restaurant for dinner for the first time based on recommendations.
Our server cleaned the table, seated us, provided us with menus and then asked what we would like to drink. The menu offers a lot of seafood options – ceviche, sashimi, aguachile, seafood tacos, seafood cocktails, quesadillas – as well as salads and a vegan taco. We ordered some guacamole to start. The server brought us our drinks and a bowl of tortilla chips and salsa on which to nibble while we made the decisions on our meals. Tacos were popular at our table – the three other people ordered Baja Fish or Baja Shrimp Tacos. When they arrived, everyone was amazed. Three large tacos with lots of battered shrimp or fish on top of coleslaw with some sauce over the top. They all loved them. I ordered the Tuna Tartar as my main course. Lots of cubes of tuna with crushed avocado surrounded by dollops of chipotle and avocado sauce. It was excellent. We sat and chatted with our new friends and one of their neighbors dropped by the table, who we also had a lot of friends in common. It was a great night of food, views and conversation
