When we attended a fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Club of Los Cabos, one of the items that we won in the silent auction was a dinner cruise for two from Sunrider Tours on the marina in Cabo San Lucas. With visitors from the UK, we decided that this would be a good time to take advantage of it. The dinner cruise boards at 5:00 pm and leaves at 5:30 to provide great views of the arch, the Pacific Side, the sunset, and Cabo San Lucas at night. The catamaran has seating on the main level both at the back and the front and on the upper deck with built in tables. There is also an interior seating area where the bar is at the back of the boat. As we boarded the boat, we were offered Tequila Sunrises as the welcoming drink.

After touring the boat to find a place to sit, we decided to sit on the benches at the back of the boat on the main level – close to the dinner buffet set up. As most people were upstairs on on the bow of the boat, this let us move from side to side at the back to get the best view as were travelled from the marina into the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean. The cruise left on time and travelled along the edge of Pedregal out to Lover’s Beach and the Arch at Lands End. Along the way, we saw several colonies of sea lions up on the rocks as well as pelicans. There was a great host on the boat, who cracked a few jokes, barked like a sea lion and pointed out all of the sites in both English and Spanish. We spent a fair amount of time around the Arch and were surprised by how much a tidal surge there was through the Arch and onto the rocks nearby.

Moving around the Arch, we had the opportunity to view it from the Pacific side and to see the other side of Lover’s Beach – Divorce Beach on the Pacific where there were some surfers. The boat continued along the Pacific side providing views of some of the resort properties on the Pacific on the other side of Pedregal – Pueblo Bonito and the Waldorf Astoria. At that point, the sun started to set and we had spectacular views of its decent into the ocean. Throughout this time, crew came by and offered us refills on drinks and Chris and Tracey enjoyed several margaritas. It stuck with Diet Pepsi and the initial Tequila Sunrise.

The dinner provided by Sunrider Tours on the cruise was a buffet-style Mexican meal. There was chicken and arrachera, rice, beans, corn tortillas, tortilla chips, guacamole, Pico de Gallo and salsas. The food was very good, plentiful (you could go back as many times as you wanted), the service was friendly and efficient – all of the guests went through the line quite quickly. There was also a crew member there to help people who were seated on the upper deck to carry their plates up the stairs.

As we we came back down the Pacific side toward the El Tezal area along the corridor, we started to see the mobulas – devil rays – jumping out of the water. Chris and Tracey had gone up to La Ventana specifically to snorkel and see these rays and actually ended up seeing even more on the Sunrider Dinner cruise. On the way back toward the harbor, we had great views of not only the restaurants and resorts along the beach but of all of the party boats that were out for the sunset. Several had DJs blasting the music, some had live entertainments and all were brightly lit.

It was a fun evening with great views, good food and an excellent crew. The cost was $115 per person and a $5 dock fee before getting on the boat.
