ALBERTO FERNANDEZ SANCHEZ MAY 8TH 1963 TO APRIL 1ST 2026. Alberto—Don Beto. It’s hard to put into words how truly great Alberto was. He was one of the most empathetic and passionate souls.
A father of three, a husband, and an outstanding human being, he was someone who wasn’t afraid of challenges.
Coming from Mexico City, he moved to Cabo without knowing anything other than the love he had for his wife and family. Many doubted them, but they persevered—a common theme in Alberto’s journey.
Alberto and his wife set up a taco stand in the organic market of San Jose, which later transformed into a restaurant called “Las Cazuelas del Don,” to which he devoted 14 years of his life. He cherished it and fought alongside his wife, Elizabeth, to keep it standing through the midst of COVID; yet, they persevered once again.
After fighting so hard for their restaurant, an opportunity arose to help students from Los Cabos reach their dreams: the Monarch Effect Foundation. Yet again, my parents didn’t hesitate to leave everything behind to start a new chapter. Three years later, this foundation—which they founded with two other amazing souls, Lisa and Eric—is well-established and helping many students in the community.
Alberto was a dreamer; he saw opportunities where others saw challenges. He was a man who never hung his head, not even in the middle of the biggest fight of his life. Even in sickness, Alberto devoted his remaining strength to working on the foundation. That was the type of human Alberto was: always looking out for others and using all his efforts to make their lives better.
Now, he is resting in heaven, watching over the community he helped build. I am sure he will still fight from up there to see it through
The foundation now has a common purpose: honoring Alberto’s legacy.
