Recently, Beth has been experiencing significant pain along the line of her sciatic nerve through her hip and down her leg. A neighbor, who had experienced a similar problem recommended Jaime Sitja, a physiotherapist with an office in his home just up the street from the main roundabout in MonteReal in San Jose del Cabo. As parking is a challenge, Jaime met us at the gate to his house and introduced himself and his dog Rex and let us back to his office.

The appointment started with Jaime asking general questions about the issue that Beth was facing. She described the pain and he asked a number of questions and gave a overview of what he was going to do during the session. He brought out an iPad and showed her diagrams of the positioning of the sciatic and how it could be affected. The first stage was to test her whether the nerve was actually pinched by lifting, moving and putting pressure on her legs to see how it affected the pain. After this part of the examination, he concluded that there did not appear to be an actual pinch so that the pain was probably been caused by pressure from the muscles in her glute or leg.

So the next stage of the examination was to test the link between the sciatic nerve and the muscles in her glute and hamstrings but placing acupuncture-style needles into the muscle near the placement of the nerve. The placement was tested by touching each needle with a small electrical charge to make sure of the its placement. In the right place, the muscle would bounce. After accomplishing the placement and the test, Jaime connected each of the needles to an electric device that allowed him to raise and lower the level of current to treat the condition.

The final stage of the session was to teach Beth how to do some exercises designed to relieve the pressure and the pain. He then also provided her with a series of exercises to use everyday, and asked that she keep him informed on how they were working.

Jaime made it clear that he was available anytime to answer any questions or do a future treatment. We were both very impressed with his professionalism, the way that he described and educated Beth on the problem and the overall process.
