Every once in a while, Chef Jose Arroyo will tell us that he has something in the kitchen that is not on the menu. He mentioned that he had some great dorado (mahi-mahi). We asked him if he would make us some Baja-style (deep fried) fish tacos with flour tortillas the next time that we came in to District. He said gladly.
We arrived and Chef Jose came to say hello and ask us a few questions. He also had some fresh tuna and so asked if I would like to start with some tuna sashimi. Of course I said yes. We ordered our drinks and the sashimi was brought out. The sashimi was served with crispy wontons in a great sauce with onions and jalapeno peppers. Beth doesn’t eat raw fish and so I had it all to myself and it was delicious.
When the tacos were brought out, we each were served two large Baja-style Dorado tacos. There was a very large piece of fish in each that was surrounded by cabbage, tomatoes, onions and an aioli mayonnaise. The flavors were totally amazing. We were stuffed. They asked if we wanted dessert but we were both too full.
Thank you Chef Jose, the meal was absolutely delicious.
