Located at Luz de Luna down the dirt road by Baja Beans in Pescadero is an interesting restaurant, Besos de Mezcal. With outdoor seating beside the pool and under pergolas in two different areas, Besos de Mezcal provides a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy an evening of food and entertainment. The bar and kitchen are at the beginning of the restaurant and they have recently added a wood-fired pizza oven and outdoor kitchen area to prepare their pizzas. The menu includes a wide range of sushi and sashimi choices, salads, burgers, wings and pizza.
I decided to try two of their sushi alternatives on the menu. The first a sashimi dish with fresh tuna served with two different dipping sauces, wasabi, ginger, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, pickled onions and jalapenos. The fish was very fresh and the sauces excellent. The second choice was a special roll with fish on the inside and outside along with a variety of sauces. It was delicious.
One of the other reasons to visit Besos de Mezcal is that they often have live music. For my visit on a Thursday, Terra Nova was playing, featuring David Raitt, Richard Hastings and Tony Askins. These extremely skilled musicians not only harmonize beautifully but the combination of Tony on fiddle, Richard on guitar and David on everything (percussion, bass, guitar, flute, harmonica) make the performance memorable.
