Biking in Los Cabos

John Anderson, Editor

Biking has become a very popular activity throughout the whole region of Los Cabos.  Several resorts on the Pacific side offer mountain biking expeditions (e.g., Paradero between Pescadero and Todos Santos).  Every day there are riders on the road bikes on the East Cape paved road, with frequent races scheduled.  San Jose del Cabo has put bike lanes on the main roads (the Malecon, Paseo de San José del Cabo, and Blvd Mijares).

Not only is the environment bike friendly but there are a number of bike shops in San Jose del Cabo to buy, rent or repair bikes and to get a full range of accessories.  Our two mountain bikes had been sitting in the garage of our house on the beach in Zacatitos and needed to be serviced.  I took them to Biccicletas Vasquez behind the skateboard park just off the highway near the Pemex in San Jose del Cabo (and behind St. Luke’s Hospital).  I had used them before to rehabilitate two older Raleigh bikes.  They serviced both bikes and changed the rusted chains, and a few cables that had deteriorated.  I dropped them off one afternoon and they were ready the next morning.

I stopped at another bike store – Bicicletas Piluchos – to get a cable lock for the bikes.  This store has a full range of new bikes, accessories, and services bikes as well.  They are located on the corner at the light one block north of Valerio Gonzales (Walmart street).  The Fresko shopping center includes a bike store combined with ATVs – Baja Bikes.  Above the small shopping center across from the Barcelo and above JJ Burgers and Salads is another bike shop – Thunders Bikes.  Finally, you can buy or rent bikes in the small strip mall beside Fonatur on Blvd Mijares and across from the entrance to the Estuary in San Jose del Cabo – Sanjo BIKES.

So if you are looking for some exercise or just a relaxing time seeing the sites in San Jose del Cabo or the great areas in Los Cabos, consider getting on a road or mountain bike and exploring this wonderful region.
