If you are interested in underwater life, there is no place that matches Cabo Pulmo on the west coast of North America. Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park was established in 1995 (and became a National Park in 2000) and includes approximately 17.5 thousand acres about 60 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. With 17 dive sites, this old living-coral reef (20,000 years), provides visibility from 60 to 100 feet and exhibits all kinds of sea life, including whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, dolphins, manta rays, tortoises, humpback whales and all of the species of fish so avidly sought by sport fishermen. Because the reef and area surrounding it are protected from fishing, this National Marine Park has helped to replenish many of the species that were being threatened in the Sea of Cortez. With five miles of beach, it is a unique location for diving, snorkeling, and kayaking. The Village of Cabo Pulmo offers visitors many reef diving or snorkeling tours from which to choose (with all of the equipment available for rent) as well as accommodations ranging from camping and eco-cabins to small hotels and homes that are listed on VRBO or Airbnb. With a few good restaurants, the combination of the sea, eco-tourism and a friendly environment make it a must see during your visit to Los Cabos.
