Located on the main street of Todos Santos, Benito Juarez a few blocks east of the central market is Cafelix, a combination of Cafe and Felix, the name of the owner (Felix Vaquez Guluarte). Felix’s mother owns the property, which also includes Sabores by Landi’s, a small boutique and a parking lot, with free parking for Cafelix. Cafelix started off as a coffee shop in 2007 and slowing expanded to the restaurant that it is today open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm everyday except Tuesday. There is seating both inside and outside on the terrace facing Benito Juarez. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and happy hour specials on Margaritas and beer.

I took a table outside on the terrace and was provided with the menu for breakfast by my server. There was a great selection of breakfast items – fruit plate, French toast, waffles, pancakes, chilaquiles, omelets, burritos, eggs and bagels. Lunch adds quesadillas, sandwiches, enchiladas and salads. I decided on my favorite Huevos a la Mexican, which were served with refried beans, sliced potatoes and flour tortillas (corn or flour available). The huge platter was only $155 pesos. The flavor was great and I made myself a few burritos with the eggs, beans and flour tortillas.

I had been greeted by a man sitting at a back table when I sat down and noticed that the staff were all asking him questions. So, when he got up, I asked if it was his restaurant. Felix said yes and we had a nice chat. He gave me the history of the restaurant, the taco shop, he used to have where the boutique is now and that Cafelix was also in Cerritos for many years. In the future, he hopes to build a second floor on the boutique and plaza area and create a small B&B right on main street.

Cafelix offered a nice atmosphere, very good food and great service. I will try it for lunch or dinner in the future.
