CAPTAIN TONY'S BAR AND GRILL ON THE MARINA IN CABO SAN LUCAS

John Anderson, Editor

We have been going to Captain Tony’s across from Tesoro on the marina in Cabo San Lucas since the 90s. Then the restaurant was much smaller than it is now. Residents had the opportunity to join the Captain Tony’s club and get an ID card with their picture that provided 15% off on the check.

We took our friends from England to Captain Tony’s for a dinner on the marina. I had made a reservation and we were led to a table near the door and offered menus. Captain Tony’s displays its history on the walls with photos, stickers and sayings and even stuffed sport fish, including a sign offering to cook whatever you catch. One sign says “Fishing: The most expensive way to get dinner for free.”

We decided to start our meal with a table side guacamole to share. The server brought over all of the ingredients and mixed the guacamole in a large stone bowl. When it was ready, the bowl was placed in the center of the table along with a large basket of tortilla chips, Pico de Gallo and salsas. It was a great way to start our dinner.

After reviewing the menu, we made our choices. Both Tracey and Beth chose the Catch-of-the-Day, a Sea Bass and the butter and garlic preparation. The fish was served with rice and vegetables. Chris decided to have chicken fajitas, which were served with rice, refried beans, guacamole and his flour tortilla choice. I went with the appetizer sized portion of the BBQ pork ribs served with French fries. The BBQ sauce was great. Everyone was quiet for a while as we dug into our meals. There was a band set up on the stage and the back of the restaurant to entertain everyone. They had a great repertoire of rock hits. In fact, one table all got up to dance to several of the songs. The atmosphere is great.

The supervisor, Rajdio came over to check on our experience and we talked about the history of Captain Tony’s and our experiences over the years. The food was very good, the service great and the atmosphere on the marina fun.
