Most of the supermarkets in Los Cabos – Soriana, Costco, La Comer, Chedraui, Walmart, Fresko – have some place to eat within the store. However, City Market in San Jose del Cabo takes it to another level. The second floor offers a number of different opportunities to eat from the Cafe (primarily a coffee shop) to Pintxos and Bar Do Mar with seating at counters around the circular kitchens to Il Grissini, a full sit-down restaurant with seating inside or on the balcony. The menu at Pintxos offers a fairly wide-range of items on its menu while Bar Do Mar focuses on seafood.
We decided to eat lunch at Il Grissini during our visit to City Market. We chose to sit on the balcony outside of the dining room and were given menus by our server. The menu is quite diverse with starters like tuna tiradito and Beetroot Humus to soups and salads, sandwiches and burgers, beef and chicken entrées, pasta, calzone and pizza. And of course, there are desserts.
We were offered fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start. I decided to try the Tuna Tiradito to start. Beth ordered to have a Margherita pizza and I chose the Waygu Burger for the main course of our lunch. The tiradito was fresh tuna marinated in a oriental sauce served with cucumber, arugula with a chipotle and truffle oil sauce. The platter was large and very tasty. The margherita pizza had just the right amount of cheese for Beth and more than half of it went home for another meal. The Wagyu burger was served iwth a side salad and was piled high on a brioche bun with gorgonzola cheese, caramelized onions, tomatoes, dijon mustard, and chipotle mayo. It was also very good.
We had a very good lunch, the service was very good and the balcony had a view of La Comer and the mountains in the background.
