It is always good to know one of the best cardiologists in Los Cabos when you get up in age. Dr. Velderrain was recommended by several of our neighbors in Zacatitos and my late father-in-law became one of his patients as did my wife. As we did not go back to Colorado last summer, I missed my annual cardiology appointment to check on my blood pressure medications. So, it was time to make an appointment and Dr. Velderrain was the only logical choice. He had worked with my father-in-law’s cardiologist in Boulder (and mine) to adjust his medications.
It was easy to get an appointment and if blood tests are needed there is a lab attached to the practice. The office is in El Chamisal, just up the street from Guacamayas restaurant. I was able to take the results of a recent blood test with me. As this was our first appointment, he initially asked me a full range of questions about the state of my health, my lifestyle and my current medications. When this was finished, I was taken over to a bed to lay down and have the electrodes attached to my ankles and chest for an electro- cardiogram. Dr. Velderrain commented on the abundance of chest hair which initially made it difficult to get a good connection. Following the ECG, he also performed a sonogram to check the shape and state of my heart.
After the tests were done, we discussed the results and he wrote me a prescription for a reduced medication that included the diuretic that I was taking as a separate pill. I had complained that my blood pressure was often low in the afternoon, resulting in dizziness when I got up. I measure my blood pressure every morning before taking my pills. He asked that I provide him with an update after six months on how the medication was working.
The most amazing thing is not only the qualifications, bedside manner and expertise of Dr. Velderrain, but the very low cost of the appointment – $1,700 pesos or about $85 US. If you need a cardiologist or just want a check up appointment when you are in Los Cabos, Dr. Velderrain should be your first choice.
