Gomez and Hilman Home Appliances

John Anderson, Editor

Based in La Paz, Gomez and Hilman offer a wide range of high-end appliances at retail outlets in Baja California Sur. When we first built our house in Zacatitos, it was almost impossible to find a good selection of appliances. Until recently, Home Depot, Costco, Walmart, Chedraui, La Comer and a few other department stores were the main source of appliances – with a limited choice of brands particularly at the high end. Over the past five to ten years, the choice has become better with the addition of stores like the GE boutique south of Costco and JR International Group in the plaza behind La Comer and Cabo San Lucas. However, Gomez and Hilman take the availability of luxury home appliances to another level. As the distributor of such brands as Wolf, SubZero, Dacor, Gagenau, Thermador, Viking, Miele, Kalamazoo, Dedon and many more, Gomez and Hilton allow builders and home owners access to creating a gourmet kitchen in their homes. Gomez and Hilman have formal relationships with many of the newest luxury developments, supplying the appliances to the developers.

In San Jose del Cabo, Gomez and Hilton is located on Valerio Gonzalez just before the car wash on the way to up Walmart. When I stopped in, looking for cabinet pulls to replace the ones offered by Pueblo Campestre in our new townhouse, I was greeted by Evangelina Rivera. She was extremely helpful in not only showing me the products that they had available (and I chose what we wanted from Emtek) but in showing the full range of products that they have available. While the showroom creates a number of kitchen settings, the company offers a much broader set of products.

I was actually surprised to see a Kalamazoo pizza oven on display. At Robb Report, we had a relationship with Kalamazoo. The company would bring their BBQs and pizza ovens to the Car of the Year event at the Meadowood Resort in the Napa Valley each year and make lunch for the Robb Report Club members there to drive the newest exotic cars available. Similarly, Robb Report often wrote about the products that were the best of the best for luxury kitchens – Wolf, SubZero, Dacor, Viking, Gaggenau – all of which are available at Wolf and Hilman. So, if you are building a new home or thinking of renovating your residence, this is the place that you may want to make your first stop for appliances, fans, outdoor kitchens, kitchen and bathroom faucets and more.
