Lateral, behind La Comer has been one of our favorite places for tacos in San Jose del Cabo. In the early days when we lived in Zacatitos on the East Cape, there weren’t many choices to eat other than driving into town.

Even as things changed, the two primary choices were Buzzards Bar and Grill in La Laguna and Zac’s Bar and Grill in Zacatitos. But over the last few years, La Fortuna has become a place with lots of choice for people living and visiting the East Cape. First, Zai Sushi Surf Bar with Jason Manning serving great sushi options. Then Shade with pizza and Mexican food options. A food truck up the hill offering excellent hamburgers and now Lateral has opened a location beside the Point Break Glamping on the beach in La Fortuna.

Fernando, the owner of Lateral and La Osteria moved a container onto the property to create a kitchen. There is great seating with a view of the Sea of Cortez and the surf break at La Fortuna. I saw several of the experienced servers from in-town on my visit to Lateral La Fortuna on its opening weekend on April 2nd, 2023. The menu is very similar to the San Jose del Cabo location and the food and service are great. The staff are all sporting t-shirts with Lateral La Fortuna on them and Fernando was there to greet the guests. For early on a Sunday afternoon, the place was very busy.

I ordered a Coca Light along with a mushroom quesadilla and a tostada de sashimi. Severed in their traditional baskets both were great. Lateral La Fortuna will be a great additional to the East Cape. We wish them great success.
