I recently had the opportunity to meet Lorena Salas in her home studio in Magisterial in San Jose del Cabo. Lorena was born in Venezuela and trained as a fashion designer at Roman Valecillos Art School. At the time, it was not easy to live and work in Venezuela as a fashion designer and so Lorena also learned to work as a Mixologist and Sommelier and moved to Argentina where so did a number of different things. However, during this whole time, she painted and grew as an artist. Her art has been shown in Argentina, Columbia and here in Mexico.
When Lorena moved to Los Cabos, she helped to open the Tocothewood and Art Gallery in downtown San Jose del Cabo. Unfortunately, when COVID hit in 2020 the gallery was forced to close. Since that time, Lorena has been creating art for clients on commission. She meets with a client to learn what their interest is and will sketch some ideas while they are talking. in this way, she can customize the art to the size, theme, and style of interest, as well where it will be placed in their home. Her art is now on exhibition in Russia, the United States, Canada, England, Japan and of course, Mexico. While her preference is for acrylics, Lorena also works in oils, charcoal, watercolor and sculpture, choosing the medium based on the art that is being produced.
Lorena’s love for art has also led to teaching children about art. During the summer, she will hold classes for small groups of students in two different age groups – 5 to 8 and pre-teens. These weeklong sessions are designed to both be fun and to help the children learn about painting.
Lorena’s eye for design has also led to working with Dramatics Lighting and Home Decor. After meeting with her clients, she will also act as a personal shopper in Guadalajara and other cities in Mexico to find furniture and accessories that fit their style and home. When they arrive, Lorena helps with the placement and installation to ensure the best result for her clients. Her work and assistance are also available at My Way Too in Cabo Bello on the highway to Cabo San Lucas.
You can find the current art that is available from Lorena Salas on Shopify from her Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/loryinpraxis/ or for more information visit her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100025539784409
