RESTAURANTE LOS TOROTES PESCADERO

John Anderson, Editor

Over the past several months, we have watched the construction on the highway between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos just past the turn to Shaka’s in Cerritos. First, the market opened with a parking lot beside it. Then, the parking lot was transformed into Restaurante Los Torotes. Walking through the palapa-covered main gates from the parking area there is a wide pathway through a garden with four torote trees and two picnic tables with umbrellas on each side. There are two main dining area – one at the end of the concrete path and the other down the right side of the building. At the back of the main dining area is a huge glassed-in kitchen with a bar along the left wall. The dining areas offers equipale tables and chairs. As I was walking into the restaurant, I noticed that they have their own large garden on the left side of the restaurant, growing spices, herbs and some vegetables.

Jose, my server welcomed me to the restaurant and offered me the menu, which provides both breakfast and lunch and dinner selections. As breakfast is served from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and it was 10 after 12, I asked if I could still have breakfast. Jose said, of course, and asked what I would like to drink. I ordered a Diet Coke and a glass of water. I decided on the Huevos a la Mexicana (my go-to breakfast). They were served with refried beans, avocado and cheese, as well as a basket of flour tortillas. The huevos were of a red color and so I asked Jose about them. He said that they are made with fresh very ripe and juicy tomatoes giving them the red tinge, and I could taste the juice of the tomato in the eggs. The portion was large enough for me to have a few burritos made with the eggs, refried beans, avocado and cheese in addition to eating the breakfast directly. In fact, I think that two people could easily share the breakfast and be happy.

The construction was very well done, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. The food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back to try out the lunch and dinner menu.
