MARGARITA GARDEN AND GRILL

John Anderson, Editor

Located across the street from Cabo Wabo in the former location of Baja La Luna is Margarita Garden and Grill. The new owner, Galileo took over the space in September 2024 and opened on October 13th, Sammy Hagar’s birthday, knowing that there would be an overflow from Cabo Wabo’s birthday celebration. During the month, the restaurant was renovated. the front portion of the restaurant includes tables with multi-color fabric table cloths. The bar on the left side was expanded and leads to the open garden area in the back with the wood-fired oven and kitchen. At the left in the front is a tequila tasting area with a bar and a display of dozens of different tequilas to taste and for sale.

One of the servers led us to a table in the garden area at the back and offered us menus. The menu offers a wide range of Mexican food – enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas – as well as traditional appetizers – guacamole, nachos with shrimp, chicken, or steak. There are also a number of seafood – ceviche, catch of the day aguachile – steak, surf and turf, and even burgers. In addition, to the regular menu, there are a number of specials presented on a white board at your table. While we were reviewing the menu, we were served tortilla chips and Pico de Gallo.

Beth and I were there for a very early dinner and so decided to have a simple meal. We started with guacamole, which was served in a large stone bowl, along with the Pico de Gallo, and tortilla chips. The guacamole was excellent and already had some tomatoes and onions mixed into the avocado. We decided to share chicken fajitas for our main course. This was also served in a large stone bowl and had a mix of grilled onions, cactus, green, and red peppers, onions, whole chilis, and tofu. The fajitas were served with flour and corn tortillas, beans and guacamole. The flavors were excellent and there was more than enough for two people. In fact, we had some left over to take home for another meal.

The specials looked amazing and we will definitely be back to try them. The owner, Galileo dropped over to check on our experience. The food and service were great.
