One of our favorite restaurants in Cabo San Lucas is Panache. They recently changed locations from their smaller space to the space previously occupied by Italian Job. Taking a slight right off the main street when you see the Panache sign, the restaurant is only a half a block up on the right and has valet parking.
The new location provides several advantages for Panache – it is larger with more tables, a bigger kitchen, and air conditioning during the summer. We were greeted at the curb by Brenda, the owner and the valet took the car to park it. A double table for four was waiting for us. Our companions, Rick and Lianne had never been to the restaurant before. While the space is better, everything else – food quality, flavor and presentation and service – remain the same – excellent.
We were offered the menus, which feature a combination of French and Italian cuisine on two sides and ordered our drinks. Rick and Lianne had red wine while I ordered a glass of the French Chardonnay, Maison Castel that is offered by the glass. A tray with fresh rolls and butter was placed on the table. We nibbled, sipped and reviewed the menu. Our server asked if we would like to order appetizers. Rick and Lianne decided to share the Burrata Salad. Beth ordered the Caesar Salad, with the fresh parmesan on the side, and I ordered the deviled eggs. There are a lot of other appetizers and salads available on the menu – escargot, stuffed portobello mushrooms, artichokes, and a charcuterie and cheese board. The portions sizes are large enough that you can share any of the items on the menu. We talked as we ate the appetizers, tasting each other’s choice too.
When we were finished our appetizers, the server asked if we were ready to order our main courses. That is one of the great things about Panache, they are not going to rush you in and out of the restaurant. Beth’s favorite is the Steak Frites served with their pistachio sauce and crispy French Fries. I chose the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Rick ordered the Pork Shank after I described it, and Lianne decided on the Blossom Pumpkin and Mushroom Tortellini. The presentation of the food is magnificent, and it is matched by the flavor. The portion sizes are so large that we each took half of our entrées home to have for dinner the next day. Rick said that pork tacos were in his future with the pork that just fell off the shank, it was so tender.
The whole table shared the huge square of Tiramisu for dessert. I thanked Brenda was the great evening as our car was brought back by the valet. As always, even at this time of year, the restaurant was busy, and tables turned with very happy guests while we were there.
