Located near the Pemex station in La Choya, Pezgallo is a great restaurant for breakfast. Pezgallo is not new to San Jose del Cabo, it opened about five years ago in La Playita and later moved to Plaza Mijares in San Jose del Cabo, and now is back on the other side of the arroyo. Walking up the ramp that leads to the entrance to Pezgallo, you see an outdoor restaurant with a gravel floor. The main dining area is covered with a corrugated metal roof. An upper dining area has fabric covers to protect from the sun. The seating includes built-in concrete benches with wood top around the outside and comfortable tables and chairs. There is a large bar with a kitchen behind. Gustavo, the owner greets many of his guests, and the restaurant was quite busy at 10:00 am in the middle of the week.
The breakfast menu includes a full range of choices from pastries and fruit bowls to French Toast pancakes and at least eight egg choices ranging from chilaquiles to a number of breakfast sandwiches, huevos ranchero, Tuna Benedict, and Turkish Eggs. For those not interested in a traditional breakfast, there is a grilled cheese sandwich, smash burger, and a vegetarian or short rib gyro. Juices, coffees, hot chocolate, cocktails, and beer are also available.
Our server was great and I knew her from another place where she works at night. I ordered an orange juice and the Tuna Benedict. Rosy selected the Huevos Ranchero. The Huevos Ranchero were served on a corn tortilla with beans, fresh bread, salsa, cheese, cilantro, and onions. Rosy said they were excellent. The Tuna Benedict included two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on English muffins with thick pieces of smoked tuna. There were served with potatoes and tomatoes – excellent.
Gustavo came over to introduce himself and ask how we enjoyed our meal. The food quality, presentation, and portion size were very good. Thank you, Ethan Heifetz for the recommendation.
