Medical Tourism - PRMedica MedSpa in the Fresco Palmilla Shopping Center

John Anderson, Editor

Los Cabos has become one of the main destinations for medical tourism in Mexico and the world. Whether for treatment of specific injuries (e.g., knees, hips and shoulder), anti-aging treatments and more and more, stem cell and exosome treatments for a wide variety of medical conditions from Alzheimer’s to Lyme Disease to heart and lung conditions. PRMedica is one of the major providers to these types of treatments in Los Cabos.

I recently met with Barry Russell, the owner and Dr. Ernesto Guitierrez, the Executive Medical Advisor to learn more about the treatments offered by PRMedica. Barry Russell is 84 years old, with a biological age of 68 due to adherence to the treatments offered by PRMedica. He trains daily with members of the Los Cabos Women’s Ironman team, including swimming at the beach in Palmilla while they are training. Although Barry freely admits that he is now following them on a paddle board for both the exercise and the view. PRMedica has several different program areas within the company – physiological treatments, cosmetic improvements, neurological treatments, wellness and anti-aging. PRMedica also remains one of the ongoing locations for COVID testing.

When a client comes in for a simple pick-me-up, after an initial consultation PRMedica has a whole series of different IV treatments available with vitamins, minerals, NAD and ozone designed to improve overall health, energy and reduce inflammation. PRMedica has often promoted these IV treatments as cures for hangovers and will even send a nurse to do the treatment at your hotel or home. PRMedica also offers the traditional cosmetic procedures to improve skin and reduce lines and wrinkles – BOTOX, fillers, PRP, Microderm abrasion with hyaluronic acid and more. PRMedica provides general checkups for both men and women that include blood and platelet biometry, blood chemistry of six elements, a general examination and urine test and a body exam.

If a potential patient is coming for treatment of other conditions, the process will start with a consultation with a medical professional. The individual may bring medical records from their doctor (or even be accompanied by their doctor), which will be reviewed. In most cases, following the initial consultation, the patient will have a complete blood workup and a physical examination. If either of these exams suggest that further investigation is necessary, the patient will be referred to the appropriate specialist at H+ Hospital. Patients interested in treatments for joints – knees, hips, shoulders – may be given x-rays or have a referral for an MRI. The results of these tests and examinations will be a recommendation for a treatment protocol that best addresses the needs of the individual.

In many cases, individuals are coming to Los Cabos for a week-long medical tourism vacation with the specific intention of following one of PRMedica’s anti-aging protocols with the use of stem cells and exosomes. These protocols are described on the website as “consist(ing) of an intravenous (IV) infusion of stem cells that can range up to 300 million depending on the weight, age and general health of the patient in combination with 10 to 15 billion exosomes. Treatment may include TA65®, a telomerase activating supplement to lengthen telomeres and extend chromosome replication, a subdermal cellular implant, ozone therapy, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and chelation therapy”. This protocol can be implemented in a weeklong visit or spread over a longer period. PRMedica provides the individual with recommendations of a program to follow when they return home, along with some of the necessary medications.

As outlined above, these treatments have been successful with anti-aging, neurological and other medical conditions. When PRMedical is treating sports injuries and degenerative joints, rather than IV introduction of the stem cells and exosomes, sonograms are often used to identify the exact location to directly inject into the intra-articular space to best regenerate the cartilage. At the same time, Ozone IVs and the Hyperbaric Chamber can be used to reduce inflammation in the body and speed healing and recovery.

This brief outline of the services of PRMedica demonstrates their commitment to both preventative and regenerative treatments to improve their patient’s lives. After our discussions, Dr. Gutierrez gave me a tour of the facilities, which is shown in the photos below.
