When we first started to visit Los Cabos in the early 1990s, there was a single grocery store chain – Aramburo – with a store in San Jose del Cabo and one in Cabo San Lucas and a limited selection of items. We went to small local stores for fruit and vegetables and seafood. Wow, have things changed! Three major chains – Chedraui, La Comer, Sorianas – in addition to Walmart and Costco mean that there is really an amazing selection of items. But more than that, Chedraui and Fresko (by La Comer) make the best of American and Canadian super stores seem down market.
With Chedraui Selecto, the selection of fresh produce, sea food, meats and the bakery give you more choice than one could imagine in a single store. More than that there are beer and wine tasting areas, freshly made pizza, ceviche, sushi and a salad bar – all of which can be consumed comfortably on the premises.
The wide selection of wines and spirits from around the world are astounding. But going beyond the items that might be found in a grocery store, Chedraui offers electronics, white goods (appliances), household items, clothing for men, women and children, a full pharmacy and a wide selection of cosmetics and perfumes. Want a good cigar, choose from the incredible selection in the humidor.
If you need outdoor furniture or even a scooter, you will find it in this store. Chedraui, even lets you order online and go to a special outside pick up area where your purchases will be loaded in your car. Given the constant sun, there is covered parking in front of the store.
