Richard Hastings, Tony YBarra and Ron Freshman, joined by percussionist Raoul enthralled the audience recently at Teatro Luna Azul. The three guitarists have played together for years at different venues in California. Richard and Tony originally met at the USC Guitar Studio when Richard went back after 25 years to get his master’s degree. Richard, who has a house in Pescadero invited the two guitarists to join him for the week around Thanksgiving to enjoy Baja and perform at Teatro Luna Azul and Poke Loko. Their performance ran the range from Classical to Modern Flamenco to Jazz and Pop.
It was the first major event of the season at Teatro Luna Azul, who offered a paella dinner to guests as an option before the concert. Unfortunately, since Hurricane Norma, the property has had some electrical issues. As a result, there was no stage lighting and the concert was performed to candle light – creating an intimate atmosphere.
It was an evening that everyone will remember. Richard performs solo and with friends at Pizzeria El Potero (Sundays), Bezos de Mezcal (Wednesdays), Poke Loko and soon at Oystera and Santa Terra.
Here is a sample of the performance at Teatro Luna Azul. Enjoy!
