We saw a post on Facebook that one of our favorite local bands, Stamina would be performing starting at 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon at The Funky Olive. This is a restaurant/bar that we had never visited and so we decided it was time to go and listen to some good music and check out a new restaurant. Stamina is a trio from La Paz that plays reggae and reggae versions of rock and blues tunes. They never fail to entertain.
We parked in the Plaza Puerto Paraiso parking lot and walked down through Luxury Avenue to find the restaurant on the lower level overlooking the marina beside Ruth Chris Steak House. The music was just starting up and Jose the host led us to table right in front of the band. They were clearly a draw as the outside portion of the restaurant started to fill up with people who were walking by and saw the band on the patio and heard the music. The inside of the Funky Olive has a huge, long bar, some tables, lots of neon and a huge flat screen television showing sports.
The menu is a true bar style menu with appetizers, wings, burgers, pizza, soups and salads as well as some beef and seafood specials. Of course, the drink menu has almost every popular cocktail listed.
We order our drinks – Chardonnay for me and a Lemonade with mineral water for Beth – and a house salad to start. The salad included apples, strawberries and grapefruit as well as the normal salad makings – lettuce, tomatoes, onions. There was a choice of dressings on the table and we used a ranch to add even more flavor to the salad. Our main course was a margarita pizza (called The Oliveopolis Pizza) with cheese, tomato slices and basil. It was very tasty.
Food aside, the best part of the afternoon was enjoying the music from Stamina. It had been over a year since we had seen them perform. Before COVID, they were frequently at Zac’s Bar and Grill in Zacatitos where we lived. We had a great time and definitely will be back for dinner sometime soon.
