The Glass Factory in Cabo San Lucas

John Anderson, Editor

Mexico is known for its hand-blown glass.  A lot of visitors take home a set of water, wine, or shot glasses with their favorite color around the rim.  It is possible to go right to the factory in Cabo San Lucas to see how glasses, art glass, figurines, and designer bowls are made by the artisans.

The Glass Factory, just off Highway 19 after the junction with Highway 1 gives demonstrations of the glass-making process.  With a whole series of ovens, you can watch these glass makers heat, blow, shape, and color the glass as they make different items.  The factory itself is almost a museum of different glass items – from its entry gates to very large stained glass windows that surround the building to glass artwork of all kinds.

In the store, you will find shelves and shelves of glasses of all styles, figurines, designer bowls, light fixtures, and large glass sculptures.  Special guided tours are available and the hosts describe the whole process of glass blowing as it is demonstrated by the artisans at all stages.

This is not only a fascinating place to visit but it is guaranteed that you won’t leave without some great glass souvenirs.
