The Hangman Surf & Tacos in Chamizal San Jose del Cabo

John Anderson, Editor

The Hangman has almost a 46-year history in San Jose del Cabo. Owned and operated by a family since it opened, the father, son and daughter still provide a great experience to its customers. After seeing the man hanging from the gallows outside the front door, the first thing that you see when you enter the restaurant is the amazing eclectic selection of items on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. From a wall of clocks to signs and license plates to toys and sculptures. There are two floors of dining rooms with lots of seating – although you often have to wait because the restaurant is full.

After being given the menus, the next thing that is put on the table is a huge tray of salsas (almost 20 different items on the tray). If you love spice, this is your dream. If not, BEWARE because even the pineapple will make your head sweat. The small potatoes are infused with habanero peppers. The guacamole, chimichurri and a few others are pretty mild. Our server gave us crispy tortillas to enjoy with the guacamole and other salsa. Ethan and I accepted the offer of Bean Soup to start.

After looking over the menu, the four of us ordered a variety of different items – mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, a variety of tacos, and a quesadilla. The food is always good, the service incredibly fast and pleasant. There is often live music on the small stage in the corner of the main floor as well.
