Located on the main highway about a block from the Pemex light at the north end of San Jose del Cabo is a new furniture store – the woods furniture store. While the store has only been open for about eight months, The Woods furniture business has been in San Jose del Cabo since 1989, with a factory making all of the wood furniture. The business is now operated by the three sons of the founder.

Pulling up into the parking at The Woods Furniture Store, there are two main areas – on inside and the other outside under cover. Outside in front of the store, there are displays of raw wood, live end table tops, tables, chairs, large vases and other accessories. Entering the covered outside space, there are wood tables, chairs, couches, coffee tables, mirrors and accessories. There are also metal framed chairs with woven seats and backs.

When I went inside, I was greeted by Jesus, one of the sons managing the business, who explained to me that all of the wood items were manufactured in their factory in San Jose del Cabo and that they had relationships with a number of companies for the supply of accessories – vases, sculptures, lamp shades, artwork, candles and more. The inside showroom has two floors filled with examples of great furniture and accessories. Jesus stressed that because they were local and manufactured all of the items both that their prices were better and that they could custom make items for their customers.

A tour of the upstairs with wood floors showed a wide variety of styles of dining chairs, bar stools, side tables and accessories. It also provided a great view of the outside furniture area.

I was impressed with the quality of the furniture. Much of it was built with parota, the hardwood that is very popular in Los Cabos. I asked Jesus to send me some photos of the factory, which are included here.
