Vidanta In Los Cabos

John Anderson, Editor

Vidanta is one of the major resort players in Los Cabos. Currently, they have the 9-hole golf course in San Jose del Cabo, the Vidanta Grand Mayan in the hotel zone in San Jose del Cabo and are building a resort on the East Cape, just east of Zacatitos.

When we first selected Los Cabos as a place to have a vacation home, we purchased in El Conquistador on the municipal golf course in San Jose del Cabo (now Vidanta Golf). This was the only course in the town and relatively inexpensive. Since that time, Vidanta has upgraded it substantially by adding a clubhouse that includes a pro shop, fitness center and the 19th hole lounge – La Laguna Social Club. The course itself is a 9-hole par 35 of 3,153 yards that is basically flat with 32 bunkers and a lake. For those who want a leisure round of par 3 golf to improve their iron or putting game, it is not a bad alternative.

The Grand Mayan is an all-inclusive resort on the beach in the hotel zone. With several restaurants – Casa Calavera, El Mesquite Wooden Grill, Samba and Si Snack – and DJs, live music or watching movies on the beach and a great pool, the Grand Mayan provides all of the amenities for a great vacation. Vidanta is expanding their portfolio with an even more extensive project on the East Cape.

The Mayan Palace is currently under construction and will have a golf course, a permanent Cirque du Soliel installation and both a main hotel and condo style residences through this large property adjacent Zacatitos. Like most construction, progress is slower than originally anticipated when the project was announced in 2010. The photos provide some indication of the progress in the last six or seven months as we have watched it evolve.
