In late November, Zadun had its soft opening of the resort. With 115 rooms, three restaurants, a full spa, fitness center, children’s play area and two pools, it is a unique property. From the entry at the gates with an in-ground fountain that you pass to the drive down to the entry to the hotel itself, you are presented with incredible views of the Sea of Cortez. The carefully planned landscaping is striking as you follow the drive to the circular entry to the resort. The combination of rusted steel sculptures and buildings, natural and stone and woods are stunning. Like other luxury resorts, there is not check in area. Guests are greeted in the circular drive, escorted to their rooms and the check in process is all in room. There are two retail shops off the entry drive – resort clothing and general retail – as well as a small ballroom/conference room that can be used for private events.
Down a flight of stairs from the drive is the cocktail lounge, Candil and Humo, the fine dining area for the resort. Both establishments have outdoor seating with views of the resort and the Sea of Cortez. From this vantage, you can also see that the roof tops of each of the two-story units throughout the resort have been fully landscaped with cacti and succulents. Whether you choose to ride in one of Zadun’s golf carts or walk the pathways throughout the property, getting around is easy with lots to see wherever you go. On the other side of the circular drive is a two-level covered iron bridge, where the concierge services for the hotel are offered.
Below the entry, you can see the large infinity pool, cabana area, another restaurant, El Barrio and the building that houses the fitness center and children’s club. The three-meal restaurant by the pool features colorful calavera tiles on the floor and the colors are carried through to the table-top service items and the cushions on the outdoor seating. Down an additional level from the large pool and restaurant area is an adult pool with semiprivate cabanas, a bar and sushi bar, X and access to the beach, where more lounges and cabanas are available. Looking up from the adult pool and beach, you get a better sense of the layout of the property. All of the rooms are set out villa style with two levels – a room on each one. Some of the beach front villas have up to three bedrooms available.
Walking back up the entry area, it is time to take a visit to Spa Alkemia. This incredible space includes separate locker room and private spaces for men and women – each with multiple treatment rooms. A special treatment room that provides water massage and treatments is available. There is a serene outdoor seating area and a large pool that includes water treatment areas. The large hot tub also features a walk-in and walk-out cold-water plunge pool with a steam room nearby. The Spa was in the process of completely a traditional native sweat lodge tent in a space beside the pool. The meditation room beside an outdoor waterfall is designed for complete relaxation. Of course, there are several couples’ treatment rooms available as well.
Adjacent Zadun is the West Enclave with four- and five-bedroom homes and two and three bedroom condominiums, which have full access to the amenities of the resort.
Overall, the impression provided by the resort is one of quality, elegance, privacy and the opportunity to totally relax.
