Zona Norte Tacos and Grill in Chamizal San Jose del Cabo

John Anderson, Editor

A neighbor had posted about a new beef restaurant just up the street from Guacamayas in Chamizal in San Jose del Cabo. We asked our friends, Bill and Tanya if they would like to join us to go our for an early dinner. We arrived at a new constructed restaurant space at the end of the block. The right side held the grill, kitchen and bar and the left side was seating under pergolas. The new wooden tables were great, and all the chairs had HV cut out of their metal backs. HV stands for Hacienda Vieja, the ranch that the owner has near La Paz.

A review of the menu quickly revealed that this was a place for beef. Only a few items on the menu – vegetarian and pasta – did not include beef. The ranch theme of the restaurant was reinforced by the rodeo footage on the big screen television and the music – a combination of country and classic rock that was perfect to enhance the experience. Our server brought us some tortilla chips and a spicy salsa and took our drink order, while we looked at the menu. A few of us had the bean soup to start, which was great. For the main meal, Beth selected the Caesar Salad to start followed by two arrachera tacos. Tanya ordered the sautéed corn and then the arrachera tacos. There were a series of condiments placed on the table for the tacos – guacamole, pico de gallo, cucumbers and salsas. Bill ordered the Zona Norte hamburger with cheese, tomatoes, bacon, and French Fries. I chose the spaghetti in a butter sauce. We were all very impressed with the flavor of our choices. I snuck a taste of the sautéed corn and the Caesar Salad, and both were very good.

To finish off the meal, Tanya ordered their flan, which she loved.

Zona Norte Tacos and Grill is a great new addition to the local restaurants in San Jose del Cabo.
