One of the challenges of getting your favorite programming in Los Cabos is that frequently services are blocked to views with IP addresses outside of the United States and Canada. So, while I could use our Netflix account, we could not access our Hulu or Apple TV account and Prime Video would only permit viewing of a limited number of shows. Moreover, as Beth loves British mystery television, she really wanted BritBox, but it was also not available in Los Cabos.

We had been told that the best solution was to add a VPN that allows you to choose the location that is seen by the programming. I contacted Lamoyne at Los Cabos Satellite Service, who had installed our Shaw Satellite at the house in Zacatitos and our Starlink service with Netgear Orbi extenders at the townhouse in Pueblo Campestre Phase 2 and asked if he had a solution available.

A few days later Miguel was there with a Netgear router with Express VPN installed. We had some decisions to make. We could put all the internet through the Netgear router with VPN or focus on the place where we really wanted to watch these programs. The downside of adding the VPN for the whole house is that it would reduce the speed of the Internet from 150 t0 200 Mbs to about 50 Mbs. So we decided to add it from the Netgear Orbi Extender in our living room with the 65 inch LG television. Miguel was great in testing everything after we added the VPN to the WiFi. We learned that we could not change the location of the FireTV that we had from Cabo InterneTV but we could change the location on the LG TV. This ended up giving us the best of both worlds. The LG TV has all of the programming apps installed on it and so we could address the VPN to the television but leave the WiFi for the FireTV with the faster Starlink through the extenders. Miguel spent an hour as we signed up for the accounts that we needed with both Express VPN and Britbox and tested all of the connections.
