Breakfast at La Casa Azul in San Jose del Cabo

John Anderson, Editor

In our continuing search for great local places to eat, friends have repeatedly suggested that we visit Casa Azul on Paseo de Pescador right beside the CFE office in San Jose del Cabo. You can recognize it easy with its blue front (Azul) and large palapa that covers the restaurant. I decided to stop in for breakfast after doing a number of errands.

The restaurant is huge with two levels under the palapa. My server came over after I sat down with the extensive menu. The breakfast choices include eggs almost anyway that you would like them, a number of different omelets, chilaquiles and four different breakfast specials. In addition, you can choose from fruit, hot cakes, burritos, sandwiches, quesadillas, smoothies, and other items for your breakfast. The lunch menu has all of the traditional Mexican items from which to choose.

I decided to have my favorite, Huevos a la Mexicana. The plate was huge and had not only the eggs, refried rice and flour tortillas but included some sweet plantains with icing sugar and toast. The flavor and portion size were amazing.  I was there between breakfast and lunch, so the restaurant was not very busy, but it was starting to fill for lunch as I left.

The portion sizes, the food taste and quality were excellent, and the prices were great. This is truly a great value and a local place to put on your list.
