Casa Porfiria

Casa Porfiria in Atrium Plaza in San Jose del Cabo

In our search to furnish our townhouse in Pueblo Campestre Phase 2, we visited and purchased from a number of furniture stores, art and accessories stores, curtains, drapes, screens and hurricane protection providers. Now this process has started again with our purchase of a small one bedroom industrial style condo in Todos Santos.

We recently went to dinner at Simaruba in Atrium Plaza in San Jose del Cabo and noticed that there was a furniture store on the second floor (at Blvd Mijares level) called Casa Porfiria. We went in and spoke briefly with Marisa, the manager who indicated that they were much more than a furniture. The company from Santiago de Querétero on the mainland, is actually and interior design company that manufacturers much of its own furniture. Marisa invited me to come back and meet with Gustavo Rodriguez González, the owner of the business who was in town.

Gustavo explained that their approach to helping their customers is not simply to show them furniture and accessories that are in the showroom but really to work as custom designers. Visiting the home or condo of the potential customer, Casa Porfiria takes measurements and creates 3D models of the whole space. There is then an in-depth interview with the client to learn about the tastes in furniture, design, colors and the functionality that they want in their home. The result is to actually prepare a 3D presentation that places the exact recommended furniture, accessories, artwork in their rooms so that they are able to visualize how everything fits and how it will look. This can even include choices of wallpaper and paint for the home. This full presentation allows the designers and the customers to adjust their plans in real time to make decisions about their home in Los Cabos.

Marisa mentioned that for some people who are investing in a condo in Los Cabos, their main objective is to get the unit outfitted in the shortest amount of time, with great design and at a reasonable cost in order to get the unit on the market through AirBnB or VRBO. Because Casa Porfiria actually manufacturers all of the furniture on the mainland in Mexico, they can deliver and install within 45 to 60 days. Most of the larger furniture stores in Los Cabos that we visited required four to six months to deliver (and installation may or may not be included).

Casa Porfiria also furnishes the show suite in the Atrium and Gustavo took me for a tour to point out the direction of their staging of this three bedroom suite. I took photos of the suite and of the furniture and accessories currently on display in their retail space in the Atrium Plaza. Marisa mentioned that as they manufacture, they have the ability to easily change the size, fabric and materials of the furniture items that you choose and still meet the agreed deadline for delivery.

Gustavo provided me with an example of one of their 3D client presentations with renderings and actual completed installations and a number of before and after shots to accompany my photos that I took in the show suite and in their two-story retail space. By looking at their website, I was also able to determine that their pricing was very reasonable for the quality of the items, especially given that they are made to order. We will definitely be ordering a number of things for our condo in Todos Santos. And, their is a current promotion on that offers a 15% discount on the current furniture in the showroom and 20% on all of the accessories and artwork.
