Choriarte Cocina Latina in San Jose Del Cabo

One of the popular restaurants in the Art District in San Jose del Cabo on Jose Maria Morelos has moved. Choriarte lost its lease and has moved to Maricio Castro 659 near the back side of the Municipal Market in San Jose del Cabo. The restaurant has partnered with Marcelino, which shares the space to offer breakfast to dinners. Choriate offers lunch and dinner from 2:00 to 11:00 pm every day except Wednesday. With ample street parking, Choriate adn Marcelino are recognizable by the horizontal wood fence the fronts the restaurant.

Entering the outdoor dining area, there is a bar with stools on the right and the kitchen on the left. Tables and umbrellas (for the afternoon) provide seating at about eight tables and a long bench along the kitchen bar. The combined lunch and dinner menus allow diners to choose from tacos, empanadas, tostadas, salads, pasta, meat on the grill, Argentinian sausages and sides – mac & cheese, French fries and grilled vegetables. There are also three different desserts.

We were offered tortilla chips and two salsas as we reviewed the menus and sipped our drinks. For an appetizer, Beth ordered a beef empanada, which came with chimichurri sauce. It was flaky and filled with beef and potato. I ordered the Tuna Tostada, which was larger than at most restaurants with lots of tuna, tomatoes, avocado, onions and a spicy red sauce. For her main course, Beth chose the Flat Iron Steak prepared medium well, which was served with roasted potatoes with a creamy sauce. The cut was big enough (350 grams) that she took part of it home for a snack. I ordered a Baja Fish taco and a portobello mushroom empanada for my main course. The taco was served on a large flour tortilla (about double the size of normal tacos around Los Cabos) and was covered with a creamy coleslaw and both pico de gallo and an avocado salsa on the side. The empanada was stuffed with portobello mushrooms and cheese and also came with a chimichurri sauce on the side.
We were too full for dessert, but I had seen the Mac & Cheese served to several other diners and ordered some to go. It was delicious for lunch at home the next day. Our server was great, the atmosphere pleasant and the food good. By watching food go by to a side area, we also learned that they had recently opened and air-conditioned indoor space behind the kitchen.
